The Wedding Night

That night—their wedding night—was very hell.

Her husband had a mind to stick things in her.

At least ’twas not his teeth, and just as well,

That night was their wedding night—and for Emily it was very hell. Lord Wodier's touch was cold and clinical, a transaction rather than an embrace—but at least it was not vampyre teeth that he penetrated her with!

She shut her eyes tightly and followed the advice of her grandmother: “Lie back and think of England”, so she thought of the England she had known—the warm hearths, the laughter of her sister Catherine, the rolling fields of Pemberley. This was not the future she had envisioned, and yet here she was, bound to a man who seemed more a cadaver than a husband.

When it was over, he rolled away without a word, leaving her to stare at the crumbling ceiling, her chest tight with tears she dared not shed aloud.
